Q. What was the most difficult obstacle you faced (in furthering your career)? How did you overcome it?
Gianna Maderis, Junior SFSU
A: The most difficult obstacle I faced in furthering my career was actually starting my career. The right entry-level position is hard to come by and competition is high. The way I overcame what I call the epitome of supply and demand (and in this case huge demand/small supply) was to be memorable. I made a list of things that set me apart from other candidates and made sure to hit on these points several times. I always went above and beyond when attending the interview, brining more than they asked for. And in closing, I followed up in a unique way that pertained to the company. As a result I was offered each of the three initial jobs that I interviewed for and against stiff competition.
I truly believe that thanks to the last four generations of women who paved the way in the work force that you find the right career path for you and the right company to work for, that the only glass ceiling is only the one you imagine.
